New Media at Arts Alive

Arts Alive is pleased to announce that through a $14,000 grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund, we have been able to greatly enhance our ability to promote Northern Tasmania’s new media artists by providing not only the space, but now also the equipment to produce and display high quality digital and screen based exhibits.

With digital and screen based art being one of the most dynamic areas of contemporary practice, this new capacity to exhibit and promote these artists and their works has greatly enhanced Arts Alive’s standing as Northern Tasmania’s leading venue for emerging contemporary artists.

The Launch of our New Media Capacity was celebrated by the Exhibition, Subterranean Tasmania, which brought together two of Tasmania’s most exciting emerging New Media artists, Samuel Eddy and Damon Bird. Both Eddy and Bird have sought to uncover the darker side of the Tasmanian experience, with works investigating the psychological and emotional reactions to the Tasmanian environment, culture and the night-time urban setting.

The New Media Launch was celebrated throughout the week with performances and workshops by ITA, a Melbourne based improvised sound art group, and Canadian Graf artist ACORN.
